This building marks the 'entrance' to the Jonas Mekas alley, so is dedicated to the 'Godfather of Avant Garde Cinema'. The part on the left was painted in collaboration with Sophia Hirsch, the part on the right on my own.
Video by Jonas Velutis.
In the alley you can see the preparations for the opening event which was also the kick-off event for the project 'Anapus Vartojimo' organised by UMI, bringing three artists working in public space to Lithuania. Organiser Solveiga Gutaute and Gintaras Sodeika, director of the Jonas Mekas Center, Vilnius, delivered a speach (sadly all in Lithuanian, so didn´t understand a thing), we had movie screenings of movies by and about Jonas Mekas and – a cold day – there was hot tea and tasty snacks.
Click here to see another mural and there to see photos of the exhibtion. Or here to be always up to date.
There was also some media coverage - but probably more interesting for Lithuanian speakers.
